Support for Every Step of Your Student’s Journey
When a Student Needs More Than “Try Harder”
Our clients come to us after:
Watching their child work harder than ever, but struggle to keep up
Moving schools or considering a major school change
Having several IEP meetings, without evidence of implementation
Understanding the material but their report card doesn’t show it
Homework is a battle or not completed at all
Watching their child miss deadlines no matter how many reminders they give
Our team is built to support your student’s needs, no matter where they may fall on this list.
Parent and Family Support Options
Family Consultation
A focused 60-minute session to review current concerns, what you’ve already tried, and outline clear next steps. We help parents get a clearer picture of their child’s needs and walk away with practical ways to support them. This is the starting point if you’re not sure where to begin.
School Transition Planning
The move from elementary to middle school, middle to high school, or high school to college removes a lot of the support students relied on, usually without replacing it. We help families and students prepare for that shift before it becomes a crisis, building the skills and systems they’ll need for success on the other side.
IEP and 504 Consultation
If your child has an existing plan- or you think they might need one- we help you understand what it means and whether it’s really working. We support families in preparing for school meetings, asking the right questions, and making sure accommodations are being used the way they were intended.
Case Management
When a student has needs across multiple pillars of support- therapists, teachers, parents, doctors- details can fall through the cracks. Our case management role keeps everyone connected and moving in the same direction. We keep your child’s full picture in focus so nothing slips through unnoticed and no one is left asking why they didn’t know sooner.
ADHD Evaluations | Washington, DC | MD | VA
Executive Functioning and ADHD
Some students face real, specific challenges with attention and executive functioning that effort alone can’t fix. When the gap between what a student knows and what they’re able to produce keeps widening, it’s important to understand why.
An ADHD and executive functioning evaluation gives families and schools a clear picture of what your child needs, so support is specific and intentional.

IEP and 504 Plans
An IEP (Individualized Education Program) and a 504 Plan are both designed to support students with learning or attention challenges in school. They’re different tools, so knowing which one fits your child’s needs is vital.
Some students need formal accommodations to access education fairly.
Getting there requires documentation and someone who understands how to translate it into support. We support families at every stage of the process so you can show up ready and informed.

Neuropsychological Evaluation Review
If your child has already been evaluated- through the school, a private provider, or a hospital- you may have a report sitting in a drawer that you’re not sure what to do with. A completed evaluation doesn’t always come with a clear plan. We review existing evaluations with families to make sure the findings are understood, and that what comes next actually makes sense for you and your family.
To get started, you’ll share any prior evaluations, school assessments, and existing IEP or 504 documentation in advance. From there, the path forward becomes clear.
-
The existing evaluation is appropriate, and you leave with a clear interpretation and a coordinated plan for next steps.
The existing evaluation has gaps. Dr. Cleavinger explains what additional testing would add and why, so you can decide whether to proceed with a full evaluation at Jones Hill or elsewhere.
A different pathway may make more sense. Dr. Cleavinger provides a specific, actionable recommendation, whether that is clinical assessment, school-based support, or another resource.
Learning Disability Evaluations | Washington, DC | MD | VA
Academic and Learning Evaluation
Every student learns differently. For some, the standard approach to reading, writing, or math creates friction that builds over time until it becomes hard to ignore. An evaluation helps identify exactly where that friction is coming from.
An academic and learning evaluation gives families and schools a detailed picture of how a student takes in, processes, and produces information, so support can be built around how they uniquely learn- not just how they’re expected to.

FAQs
-
We start with a conversation. A family consultation gives us a clear picture of what's happening, what's already been tried, and what questions still need answering. From there, we recommend your tailored next step- whether that's a specific evaluation, a consultation, or a different kind of support altogether. Every recommendation is specific to your child- not a default next step.
-
We approach school communication as a coordination tool, not a replacement for the family's voice. Parents remain central to every conversation — we help ensure that what we know about your child reaches the people who need to know it, in a way that supports rather than supplants your role.
The format and frequency of school communication depends on what the student needs. It might mean a conversation with a teacher during a difficult stretch, written documentation to support an accommodation request, or participation in a planning meeting. Whatever form it takes, it starts with a release of information and a conversation with your family about what you want communicated, to whom, and why.
-
Yes. If your student has been evaluated before, through the school, a private provider, etc.- we can review that documentation with you. A completed report doesn't always come with a clear plan. We help families understand what the findings actually mean and what to do next. You'll leave with a specific, actionable recommendation- not more questions.
-
We help families understand what their student's current plan says, whether it's effective, and how to advocate in school meetings. We help you prepare for those conversations, ask the right questions, and make sure accommodations are translated into real support for your child.
